Did you know that in North America (the biggest pet food market in the world) alone, there have been over 100 pet food recalls between 2018 and 2020, many of which have led to painful dog deaths by chemical intoxication?
If you’re wondering what a recall is, “it is the removal from the market or replacement of a product that was found to be potentially unsafe after reaching the hands of consumers”. And what are some of the reasons for such recalls in Pet Food ?
-Unknown origin (lack of traceability) of some ingredients,
-Poor quality raw materials and/or
-Exacerbated quantities of certain chemical ingredients are in general the ones to blame. Examples of these are: illegal antibiotics found in chicken that are later used for pet food; high levels of additives (such as propylene glycol) or synthetic vitamins and minerals; beef hormones, or even sedatives such as pentobarbital, given to euthanized animals, that later can be used in commercial Pet Food.
Recalls don’t just happen in the US but in Europe as well, as some of the brands being recalled have a global reach (see references at the bottom of the article).
When you buy Pet food or treats that are Bio certified, like LOONAWELL Bio certified baked dog treats, you are making sure you avoid all the causes mentioned above.
This green symbol, the EU Bio certification, indicates that all of the ingredients (with some exceptions approved by the certifying authority) must come from organic farming and that the use of genetically modified organisms (GMO), GMO-derived vitamins, chemical and synthetic pesticides, antibiotics and growth hormones, are all strictly prohibited. At LOONAWELL we go one step forward: we never lose track of our products from the moment we buy the fresh ingredients until the moment the product is shipped out to the customer.
Bio products are usually more expensive, but in this case, it is a good investment on yours and your dog’s health. LOONAWELL: Healthy dog treats, for healthy living.
