There are dog books.
And then there is the LOONAWELL cookbook.
We’re proud to announce the launch of the LOONAWELL Cookbook — a first-of-its-kind culinary companion for dog lovers who believe that mealtime should be nourishing, beautiful, and shared.
This is not just a cookbook. It’s a scientific declaration of love for dogs — a celebration of trust, nutrition, and the quiet joy that comes from preparing something good, for yourself and for your dog.
And our first edition is limited and something truly special: only 2,000 copies, each personally signed by the women behind the work.
– Dr. Maria de Bettencourt Tavares, Founder & CEO of LOONAWELL
– Dr. Cristina Lupo, LOONAWELL’s Food Development Lead
– Dr. Neus Torrent Ample, our Veterinary Nutritionist
Every signature is a promise of rigor, of care, and of the kind of obsessive detail that runs through every page and piece of information.
While not signing the book due to logistics, we are immensely grateful for the fourth co-author, Melanie Lepage, our designer based in Canada. Her work has been instrumental in bringing science to life — translating complex nutrition into something friendly, intuitive, and (we hope you agree) beautifully crafted. Without her, this book would not be what it is.
Developed and printed in Switzerland, this book reflects the same standards of integrity and care that define every LOONAWELL product — from our food to our philosophy.
A Look Inside the LOONAWELL Cookbook
The book, of 232 pages and written in English, is divided into three chapters, each designed to elevate the way you think about food, for your dog, and for yourself.
Chapter One lays the groundwork: an introduction to the six essential building blocks of dog nutrition. From proteins and fats to hydration, vitamins, minerals, and carbohydrates, this chapter gives you the foundation to confidently prepare complete and balanced meals at home. It’s science, made simple — without shortcuts.
Chapter Two is a landmark: a guide to over 250 everyday ingredients, thoughtfully analysed by the authors. These are the same ingredients you might pick up at your local supermarket — and now, you'll know exactly which ones can (and can’t) be shared with your dog. For each, we outline its nutritional value and its flavor and aromatic profile, to help inspire balanced, beautiful meals. It’s the most comprehensive ingredient guide for shared cooking we’ve ever seen — and one we hope becomes your trusted reference in the kitchen.
Chapter Three brings it all together: 40+ recipes that look and taste like typical human dishes — but have been carefully adjusted by our scientific and culinary teams to be safe and satisfying for both dogs and humans. No separate batches. No bland compromises. Just good food, thoughtfully made, and finally shared at the same table.
And because every dog is different, we’ve also included a portioning guide to help you understand exactly how much of each recipe to feed your dog based on their weight and activity level.
